WSOP Sets High Buy-in of Males in Female Event

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

The World Series of Poker is the most anticipated tournament series on the planet and pros and amateurs from around the globe converge in Las Vegas during the summer to compete in various WSOP events. The events range in buy-in and format but one thing is for certain, the winner will earn the coveted WSOP gold bracelet. One event available for players to enjoy is the Ladies option. Unfortunately very few women compete in the predominantly male field of poker so the Ladies event is an option for women to enjoy. However, men still manage to compete in this event as well.

Despite the fact that the event is catered to women only, the WSOP cannot discriminate and ban men from competing in this event. Most men are courteous and do not register to compete in the event but there are a few who just don’t care and compete anyway. Seth Palansky a spokesperson for the WSOP commented on these types of men stating: “Usually they are obnoxious and disrespectful. It’s usually a man who probably doesn’t have a mother…some men are disgusting, unfortunately.”

So to try and discourage men from competing in the ladies only event, the WSOP has set a very high buy-in for men: $10,000. Women who want to compete will be able to take advantage of a very high discount of $9,000 and pay only $1,000 to compete. The increase buy-in for men is considered legal per a new law from 2011 in the state which says the women are able to enjoy reduced prices on certain items including drinks, food, entertainment, nightclubs and casinos.

Hopefully the higher buy-in will discourage any men from registering to compete in the women’s only event. However, if not, the women can just take out the men and make them look like the fools they are!
