888Poker BLAST Tournaments Pay Off Handsomely

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016

Back in July, 888Poker launched a new gaming option known as BLAST Tournaments. BLAST was 888’s version of Jackpot SNG Tournaments and could be enjoyed via mobile or desktop download. The format provides players at 888Poker with access to game play that could create a prize pool of 2x to 10,000x the buy-in. The largest buy-in available is $30 so a prize pool of $300,000 could be created. Last weekend, two tournaments provided the big payday thanks to the BLAST 10,000x multiplier.

The first big win involved a player known as Mn79BEN who earned a $30,000 payday while participating in a $5 buy-in BLAST tournament. The runner up of this tournament earned $10,000 while third and fourth were able to earn $5,000 each.

That very same weekend saw an even bigger prize pool created when online poker player bucopepic paid $30 to take part in a BLAST tournament. The multiplier hit the 10,000 mark and $300,000 was up for grabs. Bucopepic was able to earn $180,000 with the win while runner up earned $60,000, with third and fourth taking home $30,000 each.

The multipled prizes certainly make BLAST tournaments appealing to online poker players. When taking part, players are seated at four handed tables and are given 1,500 in poker chips. The tournament is on a timer and once the timer is up, the remaining players are set until a winner is named. For tournaments with prize pool multipliers of 2 to 5 times, the timer will last six minutes. 10x the prize pool creates a timer of 8 minutes while 100x will give players 10 minutes to compete. 1,000 to 10,000x the prize pool multiplier will create a timer of 12 minutes.

With a 2x multiplier, its winner take all while 5x will provide 70% of the jackpot to the winner and 30% to second place. 10x to 10,000x the prize pool will spread the cash out a little further with spots paid in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fourth place depending on the multiplier.

State of New York Bans Daily Fantasy Sports Sites

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

3betmonkeyAfter the state of Nevada decided that daily fantasy sports sites were considered gambling and required licensing before they were legally allowed to operate within their borders just a few weeks ago, the state of New York has now joined the band wagon. On Tuesday, the state of New York issued cease-and-desist orders to the top daily fantasy sports sites operating in the United States, DraftKings and FanDuel. With the move, New York is now the 7th state in the United States to ban DFS sites.

The Attorney General for New York, Eric Schneiderman, stated that it is clear DraftKings and FanDuel are the leaders of a ‘massive, multibillion-dollar scheme’ that intends to evade the law and fleece sports fans across the country. The AG believes the new ruling will send a clear message that this type of activity will not be allowed in New York.

FanDuel is actually based in New York while DraftKings is based in Massachusetts. With the order, FanDuel will not have to leave the state in a physical sense but they will not be able to offer their services online to residents of New York. Both DraftKings and FanDuel are disappointed in the ruling, with DraftKings responding that they are very disappointed in the decision and they disagree with the reasoning. FanDuel responded in a similar fashion, stating that fantasy sports is considered a game of skill and is legal under the state law of New York.

The issue of daily fantasy sports is regulation. While some states like New York and Nevada take to banning the activity, others have a different approach. New Jersey, Florida, Massachusetts, Illinois, California and more states are showing interest in regulating the industry instead. It is believed the daily fantasy sports games could help the casino industry as a whole.

Online Gambling Revenues Increase Significantly in Delaware

Wednesday, December 24th, 2014

file4741238088930With online gambling options available in three different states of the US, players have limited online gaming to choose from. New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware are the only states offering either poker or poker/casino gaming online and New Jersey has taken the top spot as the number one provider in the US. With a small population, Delaware has pulled up the rear since launching online gaming and continues to see poor revenues in the industry. However, for the month of November, the state saw a significant jump which lead to over $30,000 in revenues earned.

For the month of November, the state of Delaware was able to earn $194,898.39 in online gaming revenues. The Delaware Lottery reported the figures and stated this was the best since the month of June when $187,000+ was earned.

In October, the state only earned around $130,000 so this was a significant jump in numbers. In November, 308 online gaming accounts were created which is far less than last November at 2,654, but the online gaming option has just launched so the popularity would of course be in full swing.

Considering the breakdown of earnings, online poker brought in almost $33,000 which is good, but nothing compared to what Nevada and New Jersey are able to pull in. In December of last year, the state was able to earn $106,900 in online poker earnings, which is the current record for the state.

Overall, Delaware continues to perform with gamblers taking to the online poker and casino options but without a large player base, will never see the significant numbers like others in the industry. However, the state is set to partner with Nevada so we could see a nice increase in revenues once interstate game play begins. This was supposed to happen late this year but now seems to have been pushed back until early 2015.

Underage Gambling Fine Under Consideration in Maryland

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Underage gambling is not accepted anywhere in the United States, yet young people under the age of twenty one continue to try and beat the system. Many casinos have paid the price for underage gambling activity when young people ease their way in to the casino, drink and gamble. The state of Maryland is now considering a penalty for those who are caught in the act.

The state may soon impose penalties for anyone who is caught gambling while underage. The casinos in the state would see charges brought against anyone who makes it through security and is underage. A proposed law would see a first time offender facing a fine of as much as $100. A second time offender would pay as much as $500 while a third offense would be issued a fine of $1,000. The third time offenders would also have to participate in a gambling addiction treatment program.

The Maryland State Lottery as well as the Gaming Control Agency of the state reported that 47 violations took place last year and this resulted in a total of $30,000 in fines for local casinos. The law change would help to punish those who try to gamble underage and possibly keep others from trying the same activity.

There are now two bills under consideration in the state that would help to thwart underage gamblers. The casinos are asking for help and this legislation will help to keep young people from entering the casinos without being punished. The state will soon have two additional casinos and this type of legislation will be very important. Of course the casinos must pay for allowing underage gambling but they also need to have securities in place to keep young people from trying to get through security. It will be interesting to see if the legislation is passed and how it is enforced if made legal.

PokerStars Announces Conduct Rules

Friday, January 31st, 2014

pssiPokerStars is known as a top provider of online poker game play across the globe. The site is the leader in quality gaming and want to ensure the company maintains a quality reputation. Because of this, the site has recently announced a conduct ruling that has been in place for some time. The site has confirmed that players who act poorly during online game play can also be banned from live events.

PokerStars hosts many live events each year as part of various poker tours including the European Poker Tour. Michael Josem is the PokerStars Head of Public Relations and he recently commented on this ruling at TwoPlusTwo. Josem stated that the conduct rule has been in effect for some time now. Players can be banned from live events as pertaining to their actions in online game play.

Josem stated that both the European Poker Tour and the site have agreed that online activity information should be used to uphold the integrity of live events. The site plans on releasing more information on this policy as regards to what the site does, how they do it and why they choose this direction.

PokerStars made the announcement as a response to a petition on TwoPlusTwo that was asking PokerStars to do more about online poker cheating. Players want to see stronger action taken against those who cheat and the majority of players want to see banning take place in both online and live game play.

PokerStars also has a blacklist that they share with Full Tilt Poker to keep corrupt players from game play. Players who are banned from game play or who choose to be self-excluded will not be able to take part in gaming at either site. PokerStars strives to take the appropriate measures to remain responsible and keep the integrity of the game intact.

One More Poker Room Added in Maryland

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

The state of Maryland has steadily moved along in the area of gambling after live dealer games were authorized last year. Players have had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of table games thanks to the amendment last year and now another new poker room is in the mix. The Rocky Gap Casino Resort has opened a new poker room that is now open for business.

Many other casinos in the state have opened poker rooms and have been busy launching table gaming options. The Rocky Gap poke room has three poker tables and has no limit hold’em and limit hold’em. This may not seem like a lot compared to New Jersey or Nevada, but the state of Maryland has went from zero table games to many options over a few months’ time frame. Residents are definitely happy to have the options and visitors now have added destinations to add to their list.

The Rocky Gap gaming facility also has over 550 slot machines and ten table games. The casino was just recently allowed to add a poker room after Stephen Martino, the Lottery and Gaming Control Agency Director signed for the operation license. The casino just opened in May of this year and already has a nice selection of gaming options to choose from.

A fifth casino is also in the works currently in the state of Maryland so eventually there will be even more gaming options. The new casino will be owned by Caesars Entertainment Corp and will be home to a WSOP branded poker room, most likely, but not yet confirmed. As of right now, the largest poker room in the state is at Maryland Live! But the new casino is sure to give them a run for their money!

Pennsylvania Man Arrested for Collecting Bets at Casino

Friday, September 6th, 2013

Gambling is an activity that many people enjoy, though not always in the legal sense. Many states in the US provide gamblers with opportunities to play popular games such as poker, blackjack, baccarat and more. Despite this fact, some people will do anything to make a buck and sports betting and gambling rings emerge. The latest instance of an illegal sports betting ring comes from the state of Pennsylvania.

A man was recently arrested by police in Pennsylvania for running a small scale sports betting operation. The young man, only thirty two years of age, had used a website to allow for sports betting options and then would collect the cash at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The operation runner and the gamblers would meet in the poker room to exchange cash.

Officials found the website, which is called Wager2020 and found the site was based in Costa Rica. According to the Wager2020 site, they do not accept payments from players and they do not offer payments to players.  The site also states that if you make a deposit to the account, the deposit is on behalf of ‘your sportsbook’.

According to reports, the operator of the ring was taking fifty percent from every $5 wagered. The man, who remains anonymous, is now on track to head to court for a preliminary hearing on October 10th. This instance is just one of many that takes place across the United States. A sports betting ring can begin as a small operation or reach multiple states and last for a long period of time but eventually the government catches up and prosecution takes place.

For gamblers, it is best to just stick with the casino and play the games you know are legal and available to you without repercussions!

Borgata Cocktail Waitresses Lose Law Suit

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

Twenty two cocktail waitresses of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa filed a law suit some time ago against the casino and it was recently announced that the girls lost the suit. The women involved in the case claimed that the dress code for servers was humiliating and was basically crazy, stating they would not gain more than seven percent in weight from the amount they were hired in at. Superior Court Judge Nelson Johnson found the case had no merit as the casino policy, in his opinion does not meet sexual discrimination charges.

The women had a very big problem with the weight gain issue. Many stated they were told to take laxatives to meet the weight standards before the weigh in or to stop taking any medication which could cause weight gain. The women also stated they were treated unfairly and commonly asked about their weight, even in a negative light.

However, despite these claims, Judge Johnson rules that if the title of your position has the term ‘babe’ which these woman are tagged the ‘Borgata Babes’, then it is not unreasonable or the employer to set certain standards including weight requirements. Johnson stated:

“The Borgata Babe program has a sufficient level of trapping and adornments to render its participants akin to ‘sex objects’ to the Borgata’s patrons. Nevertheless, for the individual labeled a babe to become a sex object requires that person’s participation. Plaintiffs cannot shed the label babe; they embraced it when they went to work for the Borgata.”

Those listed in the ‘Borgata Babe’ lawsuit are undoubtedly not happy with the ruling but the Judge has made his decision. The standards still stand and any women who wishes to be a ‘babe’ will have to adhere to these standards.
