Online Poker Revenues Continue to Decrease in New Jersey

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

file4741238088930One year of online poker gaming has come and gone in the state of New Jersey and gaming officials are most certainly not happy with the most recent results. According to the figures released, the state has seen the lowest revenues since online gaming began one year ago.

The state of New Jersey offers both casino and poker gaming online and is earns the most poker revenues for online game play when comparing Nevada and Delaware to the state’s figures. However, over the past few months, New Jersey has seen a significant decrease month after month in revenue earnings.

The total amount earned in gaming revenues for November was $8.7 million. $1,877,603 of that total was produced by online poker gaming according to the figures released by gaming regulators. This is almost $100,000 less than October revenues for poker and a continual decrease in online poker overall. Despite the lower revenue numbers, the state does continue to see new signups online with just over 506,172 accounts being created overall which is an increase of almost 6% from October to November.

New Jersey did lose some online gaming outlets with the closure of Betfair and then Ultimate Gaming soon after. The two online poker sites were not the most popular but would affect the overall revenues of the state. Now only two land based casino operators remain; Caesars and the Borgata. Both are able to generate online poker revenues and offer four different poker sites for online gaming.

It will be interesting to see what the New Year brings for online poker in the state of New Jersey as well as for the United States. The state may partner up with Nevada and Delaware if the interstate gaming begins and we may see even more states get in on the online gaming action in 2015.

Ivey Poker Closes Temporarily

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

file4741238088930After months of hype and promotion, Ivey Poker opened for players to learn the game of poker for a better experience at the felt or online. The site featured information from top pros including Ivey and offered services for beginners as well as intermediate players. The site first launched in January of this year and has now decided to close down on a temporary basis.

The online poker training site was founded and branded based on Phil Ivey and the pro has now announced the site will be taking a break. The announcement came via social media and on Twitter Ivey stated that the site will be closed to prepare for a better and bigger site.

Ivey stated that since the site was launched, a few things have been learned in the process. The site is dedicated to the loyal community base and they want to communicate to players that there will be changes coming over the next few months. The site has closed down, after this weekend, to begin the first steps to launch a bigger and better gaming experience for players.

Ivey further stated that they appreciate everything that players have done for Ivey Poker and they hope to continue to grow and evolve as 2015 arrives. Apparently the site is working on product extensions and new categories for the site for the coming New Year. With the announcement, the site also released a new video that shows new training content will be added next year for players to enjoy.

It will be interesting to see what Ivey has planned for 2015. Many are speculating that the pro is shutting down the site due to legal troubles with his case in London as well as Atlantic City based on edge sorting in baccarat. Only time will tell if Ivey is working on new updates and what he will be bringing to online poker in 2015.

Station Casinos Shut Down Second Poker Room

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

file4741238088930Station Casinos Inc is an operator in Nevada that is part of the land based and online poker gaming in the state. The company has offered land based poker gaming and casino options for many years and jumped on the opportunity to offer online poker as well once iGaming was made available. While the company has their hands in several areas and seems to be doing well, they have now shut down two poker rooms over the past few months.

The first Station Casino poker room to close was the Sunset Station’s poker room which consisted of eight gaming tables. This past week, Station Casino then decided to close the Texas Station poker room which is located in the north area of Las Vegas. This poker room was also eight tables and leaves the company with only five additional poker rooms.

With five remaining poker rooms, the company is able to operate just under 80 poker tables. The closing of the two poker rooms is nothing new as poker rooms seem to be closing across the United States. There are just over 80 poker rooms available in the state currently and this is the least amount since the mid-2000s. The amount of poker rooms though does not seem to be affecting the earnings for poker in the state. Earnings for both live and online poker were up last year as compared to 2012 and should only continue to increase this year as well.

Many argue that online poker will cause a lack of brick and mortar poker gaming but the poker rooms in Nevada have suffered for years before the option was allowed last year. It will be several more months before we can see how online poker has affected the overall gambling industry in the state of Nevada, most likely 2015 before we can see a clear picture.

Americas Cardroom Announces Huge Tournament Available to US Residents

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014

AmericasCardroom-TableThe Winning Poker Network offers online poker gaming for players around the world, including in the United States. The flagship site for the network is Americas Cardroom and this is where US players get in on the online poker action. The site recently announced they will be offering a mega guaranteed tournament for players to take part in this December.

The event is being called Winning Millions and will have a buy-in of $540. This event will have a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and the first place winner is set to earn at least $200,000. Americas Cardroom will not offer the event until December 14th but will be providing daily feeder tournaments so players can earn this spots early.

The special event is being promoted by Americas Cardroom as the first 7-figure guaranteed event to take place at a site in the US in many years and is hoping that players will turn out for the event. As part of the promotion of the event, the online poker site will also be offering 1 free bank wire to any player who makes it to the final table of the tournament.

For 2014, the Winning Poker Network is trying to grow significantly and this new announcement is certainly part of the plans. In June, the site held the 2nd round of High Five Tournament series game play and saw an exceptional turnout. However, this December tournament is one of massive proportions and makes one wonder if Americas Cardroom will be able to reach the $1 million guarantee.

If the network and cardroom succeeds in hosting the event, with a large turnout, it could help to bring Americas Cardroom into the forefront of poker gaming for residents in the US as well as around the world. Only time will tell and we still have months before the new tournament is set to begin!

US Market to Grow According to Ultimate Poker Chairman

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

file4741238088930A recent Pokerfuse report points out that Ultimate Poker has created a video series featured on YouTube with videos created by Tom Breitling the Chairman of the company. The videos cover a variety of topics but one of the most recent releases has gained quite a bit of views based on the content. The video titled Lessons Learned—Market Size, covers the US market for online gambling and how Breitling believes the industry’s potential will be emerging soon.

In the video, Breitling states that Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey are only a representation of about 4% of the population in the US. Breitling stated that ‘most of us believe all Americans should be protected and have a chance to play the games they love’. The UP Chairman then stated that 91% of adults in the US have a mobile phone and 2 out of 3 have visited a land based casinos so ‘these folks will soon be playing online’.

In the video, Breitling stated that a breakthrough in the market is just around the corner and education and innovation are the driving force behind breaking through the US market. However, the video did not feature any specifics of the plans of the company to ‘break through the market’.

The video also discusses the poor revenues for the first year of operation with online poker and Ultimate Poker and Breitling just dismisses the information stated that the company can be compared to Google or Amazon. In the video, the Chairman states that you have to see this in the same way you might look at the numbers with Amazon. The Amazon Company did $35,000 in revenues for the first month and $500,000 for the first year back in 1995. Then by last year, the company was earning $74.5 billion in revenues. Breitling stated that the point is that you have to start somewhere. It will be interesting to se how the company progresses for the remainder of the year and if the market sees this breakthrough in the US.

Fast-Fold Poker Earns US Patent

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

PokerStars is a top online gambling site that offers quality cash game and tournament options. The site continues to make updates and stay up to date with the latest technology and more. One variant that was added to the online poker room and tested to see if players liked the option is Fast-fold poker. Apparently the game has now earned a US Patent and this may hurt other sites that have added similar gaming options.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office decided in April of this year to issue a patent to the parent group of PokerStars and sister site Full Tilt Poker, The Rational Group, for the game of fast-fold poker. The patent was initially covered by news source Pokerfuse and then PokerNews, which stated that the USPTO will be giving The Rational Group a patent on May 20th of this year and the information on the patent will be ‘Computer gaming device and method for computer gaming’. The patent will be for Zoom Poker for sure, which is offered at PokerStars, but it is not clear if the patent will be for Rush Poker as well, which is Full Tilt’s variant.

The patent will not affect sites located outside the United States but will affect the variant type in the US. Regulated sites in the US will find that PokerStars owns the rights to fast-fold intellectual property once the patent is in place.

In the US, PartyPoker NJ and Borgata Poker offer a fast-fold game called Fast Forward, so once the patent is in place, these sites will have to make a deal with the Rational Group to continue to offer the game or litigation may take place. Other sites in the US such as 888 NJ, WSOP NJ and WSOP Nevada offer a similar game type called Snap Poker, which would face the same situation.

Party Poker Brings Back Palladium Elite VIP option exclusive to New Jersey

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

party-poker-table-screenshotThe Palladium Elite VIP tier is one that was of the highest caliber at Party Poker. The option was deleted about a year ago to make Party Poker a more recreational gaming destination, but now the online poker room has added the option back but only to those who are located in New Jersey.

To reach this level of VIP status, the players at Party Poker must earn 10,000 points while playing either poker or casino games. The points are valid till the end of the quarter that the points were earned as well as the following gaming quarter.

With the new VIP level, players will have access to certain benefits. These benefits include access to VIP events that includes parties, concerts and sporting events. Players will have the opportunity to compete in exclusive tournaments in live game play as well as have discounts for the online poker room store. Palladium Elite hosts can provide anything a player needs to get started and there are also more bigger and more frequent bonusing opportunities or this VIP level.

This new VIP status was made available in the middle of April and players were given the incentive to reach the level by the 16th of the month by giving away tickets to the NJCOP. The point of the new VIP level is to get people playing at Party Poker. The New Jersey site already holds the top spot for players but as any online poker room knows, player liquidity is key.

The goal is to continue to gain player liquidity so the gaming tables are full and players will be happy to find a playing field online whenever they log on. Party Poker is doing a good job of bringing players in and keeping them interested so they can continue to be a leader in today’s gambling marketplace.

New Tournament Style Launches Today at Full Tilt Poker

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

Full Tilt PokerFull Tilt Poker is an online poker site that provides a nice selection of cash gaming and tournament options. Today a new tournament style is being released by the online poker room that players are sure to enjoy. Flipout Tournaments will launch today on the Full Tilt Poker client, getting players straight into the action at the gaming tables.

Players will be able to flip straight to the action with this new tournament style. Everyone who wins goes right into the money. no more short stack or money bubble or hours of pressure poker. The first round of game play will consist of all players going all in to determine who the winner is. The remaining players will then be reseated according to a standard multi-table tournament format. The event will then continue according to a standard betting structure. Players who are able to win the first round flip will be automatically in the money.

Sarne Lightman spoke to PokerNews on the new tournament option and stated that Flipout is an obvious time saver. Players will be in the money for a large tournament, which can be hard to do in regular game play. The average skilled player will be able to be on the money and enjoy tournament game play in a quicker time frame.

Starting today, the new format will be available for players to enjoy. Sit-n-gos will be available that will allow for the flip round and then move the players forward, with the automatic option of being in the money. Players will be able to experience a final table and play for big money when they might not ordinarily be able to do so. It will be interesting to see how well received the new format option is by players at Full Tilt Poker.

Poker Only for Top Online Poker Room

Friday, March 14th, 2014

PokerstarsPokerStars is a top online poker room known for offering high quality cash game and tournament play. Full Tilt Poker is the sister site of PokerStars and recently launched casino gaming options. This had many in the industry wondering if PokerStars would add casino gaming as well.

According to a TwoPlusTwo Question and Answer Session with Steve Day, a representative for PokerStars, the site will not be adding casino games. Day stated that as of right now there are no plans for casino games to be added to the client at PokerStars.

Day is not going to say never, but as of right now, PokerStars is going to be poker and nothing else. Day stated ‘We are Poker’ and will offer nothing else. PokerStars has a full plate as of right now with several live poker tours and tournaments, regular online gaming and promotional opportunities. It also seems odd to think that PokerStars might begin to dabble in online casino games.

Full Tilt Poker first began to offer casino gaming in January of this year with the addition of blackjack and roulette. With the addition of these games to the poker client, the Rational Group marked the first time that games of a non-poker variety were offered for real money game play.

Slot gaming is also expected by Spring of this year with the recent partnership of The Rational Group with Leander Games. Slots will be added to Full Tilt due to the partnership in the coming months. The Full Tilt Poker site is also looking to possibly offer sports betting to members of the site.

So, for now, players can enjoy online casino and poker gaming at Full Tilt Poker. PokerStars will remain an online poker site and will not be adding casino gaming options at this time.
