Female Poker Player Dominating the Field in Oregon

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Currently in Oregon, the Wildhorse Resort & Casino is hosting the Spring Poker Round Up, a poker series which offers tournament game play with several events on the schedule. The series may not be as prolific as the WSOP or the WPT, but will soon be very well known thanks to one poker player. Angela Radich Jordison has dominated the field during the series, taking down the first place win in the first three events of the Round Up.

According to Card Player, Angela has cashed out before in Pendleton, where the casino is located, and in Las Vegas over the past few years but never earned a tournament win. She now has three under her belt, all back to back! The bar owner and mom of two has played the game for more than ten years but certainly doesn’t have a lot of time to devote to tournament play.

Tournaments do not happen often in her area so she must make do with the card games at the Wildhorse Resort & Casino. When the poker series was announced the poker player decided to try her hand at a few events and proved to be very successful. Speaking with the news source, Angela stated that the last three events were a blur. She stated she played more heads up over the three day time span than she had in her entire life.

Each of the tournaments took place in no limit hold’em form with the third being a shootout format. Angela stated the third was the most difficult taking a lot of concentration while she had little sleep. The wins were quite impressive as the field of competitors were quite large for each event. #1 had 537 players, #2 had 448 and #3 had 214. Overall, she won $10,828, $18,348 and $8,731 for competing in each of the three events and claiming the title win.

Hopefully the wins will give this mom a little attention and help her to enjoy the game of poker even more! After busting out in Event #4, she went straight home to rest after a tiring but fun-filled few days!

US Online Gambling Revenue Estimates Lowered Considerably

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

file4741238088930Online gambling has taken place for over a year now in the United States and has been quite successful for the states of Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey. However, despite each state seeing nice traffic numbers and significant revenues in the continually growing industry, the estimated revenues for the future of the industry have been lowered considerably.

According to reports by Morgan Stanley, the prediction of online gambling revenues has been cut almost in half based on the earnings thus far. Morgan Stanley is a top financial services company that offered an estimate for the market by 2020 and this number has now been reduced.

When the research was released, the firm showed that by 2020 the industry would be worth around $2.7 billion. This is almost half of the $5 billion in earnings which was estimated last year. Before last year’s estimate, Morgan Stanley had predicted that the industry would be at around $8 million by 2020.

The estimates appear to keep falling so either the online gambling industry is not thriving or reports are conflicted with what the firm thought would happen with the industry or the figures were just wrong. There are arguments for both sides, with some feeling the industry has not lived up to expectations while others feel as though the industry is doing just fine.

Morgan Stanley stated in their findings that they believe there is a material runway for growth but the results thus far have been disappointing. The firm believes the legislative processes have been slow as lawmaker are unconvinced that online gaming is not worth the hassle for the limited tax revenues.

It will be interesting to see how the industry is able to grow as additional states begin to get in on the online gaming action. There are several states considering legalization of poker or overall online gaming, including California and Pennsylvania.

Super High Roller Event Gaining Attention

Wednesday, March 25th, 2015

This summer the Aria plans on offering a Super High Roller Bowl which has a price tag of $500,000 to enter. This is a high dollar amount that many poker players just cannot afford, expect the elite. The event will not take place until July but already the number of players set to complete has passed the 40 entry mark. The event is set to be a big money maker, with the field continuing to grow at a nice pace.

The event has seen seven additional players sign up to compete in just the past two weeks. That is $3.5 million in entry fees paid, a crazy amount of cash. The tournament will begin on the 2nd of July and will continue until the 4th, which sets the event taking place right before the World Series of Poker begins their Main Event. This allows players who are in town to take place in the Aria event as well as the WSOP Main Event.

We do not know if the registration for this event will eventually be capped or if the Aria will let players continue to pony up the massive buy-in to compete. The goal is to have a $25 million prize pool and offer a first place prize of $8 million+. To meet these numbers, the event would need 50 entries, which should be doable as players continue to sign up to compete.

The Aria website is keeping the poker community in the know as to who is signing up to compete and how many players are registered. So far, the new players set to compete include someone known as a Hedge Fund Manager, a retired businessman and a CEO. Once the event begins, it will be interesting to see how many players are actually going to compete and how large the prize pool will be!

Rick Salomon Reportedly Wins $40 Million

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

file4741238088930According to various reports, poker player Rick Salomon earned a nice payday when competing against fellow poker player Andy Beal. Salomon is currently going through a divorce with Pamela Anderson and according to court documents, Salomon was able to earn a $40 million by playing against fellow poker pros. The bulk of this cash seems to come from Andy Beal.

Anderson is trying to see some of the cash come her way, claiming half of the money won from the previous year. Based on information provided by Anderson, Beal and Salomon met one weekend in Las Vegas at the Bellagio. They competed at the poker tables and Beal was up $13 million at one point but then ended up being down $16 million against Salomon.

This would not be the first time Beal has been in the news for losing a large amount of cash. It was reported not long ago that the pro lost $5 million when competing against Todd Brunson. After finishing fourth in the World Series of Poker $1 million buy-in event, Salomon learned that Anderson was divorcing him. Anderson filed for divorce which is nothing new to the couple.

This is the second time the couple has separated since being together. Back in 2007, the April had been together for just two months before calling it quits. The reason the two are together is because of the game of poker. Anderson was said to have lost $250,000 while competing against Salomon and the two could not get enough of each other.

It will be interesting to see what a judge decides in the divorce proceedings, since there is a great deal of money on the line. Will Anderson get her cut or will Salomon be able to keep his earnings after what seems to have been a very profitable 2014?

Florida Representative Introduces New Gaming Legislation

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015

file4741238088930A State Representative in the state of Florida has introduced a new proposal that would see gaming expanded with new live casino gaming in resort form. Dana Young has proposed a huge bill that would legalize large gaming options for commercial gaming operators who are not based in Florida to be able to gain licensing in the state.

The new proposal is 316 pages long and is titled the Gaming Control Act of 2015. Young is hoping to see two casinos created that would be considered destination style resorts. The two new gaming facilities would be built in Miami-Dade and Broward counties and is a proposal that is not new in the state. Consideration has been placed on the subject in the past but has never been approved into law.

Each casino would have a price tag of $2 billion and voters in both counties will need to agree to the project. The bill also covers such gaming areas as racetracks and slot machines. In the past, efforts have been made to bring such gaming resorts in the southern area of Florida but tribal interests have pushed to see this not take place. Other entities such as Disney do not want to see such destination options built as well as it could take away from their business. The state’s compact with the Seminole tribes in regards to blackjack and other games will expire this year.

The new bill is not one for iGaming but does state that a resort license will not be awarded to an entity that has accepted a wager or money or another consideration of any gambling activity which includes the game of poker from a resident of the state since the specific date of October 13th 2006.

It will be interesting to see if the legislation will be accepted or if the tribes within the state will be fighting the new legislation to try and keep a hold on the gaming market within the state.

Native American Tribe Demands Casino Rights or Plans on Growing Marijuana

Wednesday, February 25th, 2015

Image result for pot weedAcross the United States, the laws and regulations for casino gaming will vary. While some states offer casino gaming others do not. A casino cannot be built without going through the proper channels and in many states, this is not allowed period. In states with Indian Tribes, the tribes usually have the right to offer casino gaming as long as the rules of the state to tribe pact are followed. In the state of Florida, a Native American Tribe wants to build a casino and if they are not allowed, plan on using the land to grow marijuana.

The movement by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians is considered a threat by the state as marijuana is illegal in Florida. The state is not one that is favorable of the plant which is used for medical and recreational purposes. The federal government may get involved as they do not want to see pot grown on tribal lands and if the tribe decides to make this move, they may be in for more trouble than bargained for.

The tribe already has casinos in Alabama and wants to be able to offer gaming in Florida alongside the Miccosukee and Seminole tribes. The Creek tribe would like to have a casino located in the Florida Panhandle area on land in Escambia in which they own.

It has been reported that the tribe has already begun construction. The Indian tribe is in talks to create a compact to allow the tribe to build a casino and offer gambling. However, the tribe does not have the status within the federal government to be able to enter a compact with the state.

The governor of Florida stated that it is premature for the state to engage in any negotiations of a compact with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians until the tribe is able to obtain Indian lands determination from the Department of the Interior.

Casino Robber Claims Theft Two Years Later

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Casinos are an environment where players can enjoy their favorite casino games. Casino operators hire dealers to control the games as well as additional employees to work certain areas of the casino. These employees must take care to follow the proper rules and regulations so that the casino is operating properly. In most cases, employees do as they should, but sometimes employees will try and cheat the casino to make a quick buck. When this happens, the employee ends up getting caught and losing their position, earning jail time.

A former employee of a casino in Nevada recently turned himself in for robbing the casino, even though the robbery took place two years previously. The employee, Dell Eugene Warfield III, turned himself in supposedly stealing over $160,000 from the gambling site.

The robbery took place in 2013 when Dell was working at the William Hill Race & Sports Book Primm Valley Resort and Casino. This facility is located in Stateline and Dell reportedly came into the casino and went straight to the state. He then opened the safe and took the cash from the casino. Dell knew the code to the safe since he was an employee of the casino.

The robbery was captured on camera at the casino but since the safe was accessed via the code, the alarm was not set off. An employee reportedly saw the heist take place and Dell was able to get away. The twenty four year old ended up turning himself in earlier this week on charges of theft and burglary.

It is unclear as to why he turned himself in and if there is any money remaining from the amount taken from the safe. When the robbery took place, Dell reportedly texted his dad, stating that he would not be hearing from him again after he got ‘caught up’.

Vanessa Rousso No Longer a PokerStars Sponsored Pro

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015

PokerstarsWhen a professional poker signs with an online poker company, the player tends to stay associated with the brand for quite some time. Players have been known to start careers after one major win and signing with top companies such as PokerStars, 888, Full Tilt and more. When a player signs with a poker site, they will earn a bio page online as well as compete in online tournaments or host special events. The player will also represent the site at live events, wearing clothing from the brand to show support and sponsorship.

Top pro Vanessa Rousso has been associated with the PokerStars brand for quite some time and now it seems as though the two have parted ways. The PokerStars website no longer has any information of Rousso including her picture and bio page that were previously on the Team PokerStars list.

According to f5Poker, PokerStars no longer has any information of Rousso on the site and Rousso’s Facebook and Twitter page no longer mention PokerStars. According to reports, it does show that Rousso works with PokerStars.net on her personal page of Facebook but this could just be from the pro not removing the status as of yet.

It is believed that the two parted ways toward the end of January as Rousso was still shown on the PokerStars site up until about a week before February began. Neither Rousso nor PokerStars have made a formal announcement on the subject as to a split or why the two will no longer be working together. More information should be released in the future on the subject.

Rousso will still be a big fixture in the poker industry and can be seen in a few weeks at a seminar featuring poker by focusing on reading and decoding player behavior at the gaming tables.
